Post Icon is another solid usenet service provider that has been around for many years. The interesting part is not many people know of them! Originally started in November of 2003, was part of a Swedish company – GL Design IT. That company was already operating a Swedish Usenet Newsgroup provider “Usenet.SE”. grew out of that original business and has since expanded their focus to the US/North American market. still maintains both US and EU servers for their usenet service, and they are quite well known in the EU as a solid usenet provider. says their business philosophy “has always been to provide the best services at the lowest price.” Their motto, “more for less!” has led them to a leading position among the non-independent usenet newsgroup providers. The pricing for their plans is very competitive for basic NNTP usenet access. Their cheapest unlimited plan is almost unbeatable when you look at it strictly from an access perspective. The number of connections is good, the retention is high, and SSL encryption is included. As a middle tier offering, this plan is damn near the lowest cost for unlimited downloads available today. The only drawback is that they don’t offer a lot of “extras”. There is no free newsreader and no usenet search included, but don’t let that deter if you are just looking for quality usenet access. Sometimes all the extras aren’t needed, and this where service providers like shine.

Since has been around for quite some time (almost 10 years!) you really don’t have to worry about them suddenly closing the shop. Their reliability is quite good, and they do offer 24x7x365 support via their website. They do not have support chat, or a telephone number listed – but they do have a support ticket form. Typically our editors like to see live chat or a telephone number…just in case, but has been around so long we consider their online support basically sufficient. There is an option for a free trial, and that would be a good way to check out their service and measure the speeds on your internet connection. It’s a short trial, but it should be enough to give you the ability to judge the quality of their service and support before you take the leap into a monthly plan. Which, by the way, is not their only offering – they also offer pay as you go plans, which can be good for people just looking to download-as-needed. Forewarning, you typically will pay more for pay as you go than you would with a monthly access plan!

Overall our editors consider a sort of diamond in the rough of usenet service providers. They aren’t well known, but their access plans and pricing speak for themselves!

Absolutely love these guys! Their unlimited plan is one of the cheapest around, and they don’t make you buy a wflhole year or anything. You get unlimited transfer and really high retention too. They have been increasing it lately which is cool. I max my Comcast cable and always connect via SSL. I dont think you really need the crazy connections they offer on the other plan. I would say reliability is good. I once experienced some issues but it only lasted for a day. Four stars there but I’m not complaining!
